Misamis Occidental 2nd District Congressman Sancho Fernando “Ando” Oaminal recently released a statement of support for House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, as the latter and the House of Representatives were mentioned in a tirade from Vice President Sara Duterte.
“It is with unconditional resolve that we join our House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez in taking a strong stand against unwarranted attacks to our esteemed institution,” Oaminal said in the statement.
He also urged to “sound the alarm” to the statements of the Vice President, in which she threatened to have President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Romualdez, assassinated.
The mentioned threats from the VP were a key part of what some pundits described as an “unhinged rant” against Duterte’s perceived “persecution” of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) during the legislative inquiry on the use of confidential funds.
“It is indeed grave and unsettling that these hostile words and acts are coming from no less than the second highest leader of the land,” Oaminal continued.
He also lamented the inappropriate response of the OVP to the House’s inquiry. “The public, which deserves honest answers on the utilization of government funds,” Oaminal emphasized, “was instead answered with rude and inappropriate words attempting to deviate from the pressing issues at hand.”
Oaminal ended his statement with a rallying cry to support the Congress, the House Speaker, and the President. “We are one in protecting our democracy and in preserving the respect due our government and the Filipino people,” he proclaimed. “We unite with our House Speaker and my fellow colleagues in the House of Representatives in pledging our unwavering allegiance and support to the leadership of our President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.”
