COUNCILOR Jonjon Rodriguez called on the public to extend compassion, understanding, and support to individuals who may be silently struggling as the city observes World Suicide Prevention Month this September.

In a recent Facebook post, Rodriguez reminded the public that people may be carrying unseen burdens despite appearing fine on the outside. He encouraged everyone to reach out, listen, and offer support to those going through difficult times.

โ€œKung naa kaโ€™y kaila nga naglisod, kamustaha sila. Paminawa sila,โ€ Rodriguez said.
โ€œUsahay, dili nato mahibaw-an kung unsa kadako ang epekto sa usa ka simpleng, โ€˜Naa ra ko diri.โ€™โ€

As chairperson of the committee on social services and an advocate for mental health, Rodriguez emphasized that suicide prevention goes beyond awareness. It also requires community care, compassion, and timely support.

He continues to advance mental health initiatives through his advocacy, including efforts to support the CSWD Psychosocial Unit and strengthen psychosocial support services in the community.

Building on these efforts, Rodriguez stressed that suicide prevention is a shared responsibility that requires compassion, awareness, and action. His message is simple yet powerful:

โ€œAyawโ€™g buhi.โ€ โ€” a reminder to hold on, to care, and to be present for one another.

Observed every September, Suicide Prevention Awareness Month provides an opportunity to promote awareness, encourage open conversations about mental health, strengthen early intervention, and improve access to appropriate support and services. (๐‘ฑ๐‘ซ๐‘ถ๐’‘๐’†๐’Ž๐’‚/๐‘บ๐‘ท)
