The Supreme Court has addressed the petition for habeas corpus filed by Rep. Paolo Z. Duterte, following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte. According to Supreme Court Spokesperson Atty. Camille Sue Mae L. Ting, the Court has taken cognizance of the petition and will deliberate on the matter.
Rep. Duterte’s petition seeks the issuance of a temporary restraining order (TRO) and/or writ of preliminary injunction (WPI) to halt the proceedings against his father. The petition also questions the legality of the former President’s arrest.
Atty. Ting, the first female spokesperson of the Supreme Court, ensured that the Court will prioritize the resolution of the petition.
The Supreme Court’s decision on the matter is highly anticipated, as it will have significant implications for the ongoing case against former President Duterte.
