Presidential spokesperson Claire Castro encouraged supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte to think critically and understand the circumstances surrounding his arrest. Castro emphasized that Duterte himself had challenged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to file charges against him.
“The case against him before the ICC was not fabricated by this administration, but rather stemmed from the previous administration’s war on drugs, which Duterte had openly admitted to,” Castro explained during a press briefing on Wednesday.
Castro’s statement aims to promote a more nuanced understanding of the situation and encourage the public to consider multiple perspectives, amid calls from some Duterte supporters for protests in response to his arrest.
