Philippine National Police-CIDG chief Major General Nicolas Torre III has defended the handling of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest, dismissing allegations of mistreatment.
Torre assured that Duterte’s rights were respected, stating, “There was no deprivation at any moment of their right to food and water. In fact, we even delivered food, and they were just declining.”
He also emphasized that Duterte was provided with legal counsel, medicine, and food, and that the prosecutor general witnessed the reading of his Miranda Rights.
Torre’s statements aim to address concerns surrounding the arrest, which took place at Villamor Air Base on March 11, 2025.
