MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang on Wednesday reassured Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) that they can continue sending financial support to their families without any restrictions, dismissing calls for a “Zero Remittance Week” as misleading.
According to Palace press officer Claire Castro, the government respects the rights of OFWs to send money home and urged them to ignore misinformation spreading online.
“The government will not interfere with remittances. OFWs have the freedom to support their families, and we assure them that there are no policies restricting this,” Castro stated.
The Palace’s statement comes amid online discussions urging OFWs to withhold remittances in protest. Officials emphasized that such calls should not disrupt the financial stability of Filipino families relying on overseas earnings.
