Manila, Philippines – May 22, 2025 — Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Romando “Don” Artes has confirmed that he will submit his courtesy resignation, following the call from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for all Cabinet-level officials to step down as part of a broader government recalibration.
The MMDA’s Media Information Office released a statement acknowledging that Chairman Artes, who holds the rank of Cabinet secretary, will comply with the President’s directive. This move places Artes among the growing list of top officials who have expressed readiness to support the administration’s efforts to assess performance and align leadership with post-midterm priorities.
Appointed in 2023, Artes has overseen a number of urban mobility and traffic management programs in Metro Manila. His upcoming resignation will allow the President to evaluate leadership in key positions and determine whether current officials will continue in their roles or be replaced.
The Palace earlier stated that the call for resignations is not punitive but aims to “recalibrate” the administration for better service delivery during the remaining years of Marcos’ term.
It remains to be seen whether Artes will be reappointed or succeeded by a new MMDA chief.
