A joint press briefing was held at Malacañang on Thursday, featuring representatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Department of Justice (DOJ), and Philippine National Police (PNP). The briefing addressed the recent arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte and the Philippine government’s stance on cooperating with the International Criminal Court (ICC).
According to DOJ Assistant Secretary Jose Dominic F. Clavano IV, government officials and personnel who cooperate with the ICC probe on Duterte’s drug war may be held accountable ¹. Clavano emphasized that the government’s policy is not to recognize the ICC’s jurisdiction, citing the country’s robust justice system.
The ICC is currently investigating Duterte’s administration for alleged crimes against humanity, particularly in relation to the thousands of killings during his drug war operations.
