House Speaker Martin Romualdez may face investigation over his links to the flood control project controversy, according to Palace press officer Claire Castro. “Whether he resigns or not, he can still be investigated,” Castro said, indicating the probe’s independence from Romualdez’s current political position

The controversy emerged after Curlee and Sarah Discaya testified before the Senate, accusing several lawmakers, including Romualdez and Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co, of receiving kickbacks from contractors handling flood control projects. Romualdez has denied the allegations, describing himself as “self-made” and asserting he doesn’t accept bribes

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. emphasized that no one is exempt from investigation, including allies and relatives involved in the controversy. “They will not be spared,” Marcos said, backing an independent commission to probe anomalies in infrastructure projects

Following the allegations, Romualdez stated he shouldn’t be blamed for projects under executive agencies like the DPWH. “I do not need—and will never allow myself—to be corrupted by money that does not belong to me,” he declared

The House of Representatives has launched an investigation into flood control projects, led by Rep. Terry Ridon as chair of the committee on public accounts. The probe aims to ensure transparency and accountability in government projects amid growing scrutiny

– Romualdez recently resigned as House Speaker, recommending Deputy Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III as his successor.

– Allegations involve several lawmakers and contractors linked to flood control projects worth billions of pesos.

– President Marcos stresses accountability, with probes ongoing in both Senate and House
