DILG-10 implements capacity dev’t program for newly elected officials

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-10 will conduct a term-based capacity development program to ensure smooth transition of newly elected officials (NEO).

During the 1st Semester Socioeconomic media forum, DILG-10 Local Government Operations Officer IV Edel Grace Seronay said the NEO program provides harmonized and holistic capacity development interventions to assist newly elected officials.

The program consists of five key components that include 1) ensuring smooth transitions 2) jumpstarting local governance 3) creating the roadmap for LGU development 4) enhancing the competencies of LGU officials, and 5) staff performance-based incentivization.

Seronay said this will help NEOs to understand and think critically about the organizational, political and constitutional environment of public service and be immersed in the challenges confronted by their communities in terms of governance, climate change and resiliency, economic development and social protection.

The DILG’s Regional NEO program implementation is targeted between second to third week of July composed of 36 newly minted officials and 62 re-elected officials.

Meanwhile, the National NEO Program Implementation will be conducted in Cagayan de Oro City with 87 newly minted officials and 50 re-elected officials. Participants shall include from Region 10, 9 and CARAGA with target date on August 3-4, 2022. (JMOR/PIA-10)
