Bringing quality DOLE employment services through PESO, JPO

To bring about its mission and vision to the people of Davao Region, the Department of Labor and Employment (XI) has been working closely with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and Job Placement Office (JPO) to provide employment services at the grassroots level.

One of the strategies of the Office to sustain this established partnership is the conduct of Basic Employment Service Training (BEST) to all new PESO Manager and Staff every year. Notably, this year, there were newly installed PESO Managers and Job Placement Officers following the national elections.

Spearheaded by the DOLE XI-Technical Services and Support Division (TSSD), this year’s BEST cum TUPAD orientation was held on September 13-15, 2022 at The Ritz Hotel in Davao City. The three-day training and orientation covered topics on frontline employment services of DOLE such as Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES), Government Internship Program (GIP), Career Guidance Advocacy Program, and JobStart Program.

DOLE XI, through its employment focal persons, also provided lectures on employment coaching, anti- illegal recruitment, and existing online employment systems. Additionally, participants were given an orientation on DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) and Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) which are relevant to the implementation of employment programs and services.

Aside from capacitating the new PESO Managers and Job Placement Officers with management skills and knowledge required in the delivery of services, the activity also aimed to obtain the support and assistance of the Local Chief Executives to ensure smooth administration of DOLE programs and service.

In his welcome remarks, Regional Director Atty. Randolf C. Pensoy highlighted the piles of national and local awards and recognition conferred to the DOLE XI in terms of employment facilitation. “This accomplishment would not have been possible without the strong partnership that we have with PESO and JPO. I hope that we can reinforce and substantiate this partnership and continue to deliver employment services of high caliber to the people of Davao Region.”

On top of that, the participants were able to raise their concerns and recommendations during the Focus Group Discussion so as DOLE XI could gain an in-depth understanding of issues and refine the quality of its employment services.

The training was attended by a total of 56 PESO managers and staff and four (4) Job Placement Officers from across the region. Also in attendance were DOLE XI Assistant Regional Director Atty. Jason P. Balais, TSSD Chief Paul V. Cruz, Regional Employment Focal Person Ryan D. Roldan, and PESO Managers Association of the Philippines-Davao Region President Rolly Impas.
