The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has reported that nearly 70% of barangays nationwide have been declared “drug-free” under the leadership of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. Out of approximately 42,000 barangays, a total of 29,390 have successfully met the criteria for this designation.
According to PDEA, these barangays have been verified to have no ongoing illegal drug activities or presence of illicit substances. A barangay can achieve “drug-free” status by complying with the requirements set under Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Regulation 4, Series of 2021.
Despite this progress, around 6,113 barangays (14.55%) remain classified as “drug-affected.” This means that individuals such as drug users, pushers, or protectors are still present in these areas, indicating the continued need for enforcement and rehabilitation efforts.
Authorities continue to intensify anti-drug operations and community-based initiatives to further reduce drug-related activities across the country.
