ZAMBOANGA CITY—Vice President Sara Z. Duterte on Friday launched the OVP Madrasah Reading Corner Program at Ma’had Da’wa Al-Islamie in Zamboanga City.

The school became the first beneficiary of the program, receiving tables, chairs, and bookshelves from the Office of the Vice President, along with 126 children’s books donated by the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Manila. The reading corner will serve the school’s 420 students.

Duterte emphasized the importance of reading comprehension, urging students not only to read books but also to understand what they read. She encouraged them to study hard, finish their education, and work toward a better future.

She also reminded the children to listen to their teachers and parents, stressing the importance of their guidance in their education and personal development.

Duterte urged students to read daily, share books with their younger siblings, and take care of the books so other children could benefit from them. She also encouraged the school’s ustadz and ustadza to make the reading corner accessible to learners during school days.

The Vice President thanked the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Manila for its book donation and said the OVP would expand the initiative to more madaris to improve Muslim learners’ access to reading materials and learning facilities.
