MUSINGS: The phrase mentioned above is the best representation of one of the core characteristics of Governor Abdusakur M. Tan. The Governor has always been able to back up his words with action.
You see, talk is cheap. Anyone can talk but not so many people actually get up and do something about it. So when he mentioned that he will do all to serve his people, his Bangsa, then you best believe it.
In the past few weeks, people felt ‘vulnerable and unsure’ about the unfolding events, stemming from that Supreme Court’s ruling. That feeling of uncertainty and fear were understandable because a lot was at stake. Any talk or platitude will feel hollow and inadequate considering that people are not hearing and seeing what they desperately need to.
The Governor understood that too well. Our people will not appreciate small, insignificant talking points that will serve no purpose but to lull our people with a false impression of assurances that everything was alright.
But make no mistake, there was always a plan to address the elephant in the room, so to speak. But timing was crucial because everything needed to be set in place first to avoid any ‘difficulties.’
And when the conditions were right, it was a relief to see and to be proven right, that indeed, Gov. Abdusakur M. Tan has always been a man of his words and actions.
Boss Papang as he is fondly called by everyone has united all our leaders to join him as they embarked on a common goal — to visit and lobby the Halls of Power in Manila to ensure the smooth transitioning of Sulu amidst its exclusion from BARMM.
Hence, the visits to House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez at the House of Representatives and His Excellency President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. at Malacañan Palace were a strategic and important political move to secure assurances that Sulu will continue the momentum of peace and progress that it has enjoyed thus far, despite the very far-reaching consequences of the Supreme Court’s decision.
In the continuation of the series of planned visits to essential national government agencies, Gov. Abdusakur M. Tan was in an important meeting today with DBM Undersecretary Wilford Will L. Wong and Atty. Leo Angelo M. Garcia, Chief of Staff, Adviser to the IMG and DBM Focal Person for Presidential Directives to shore up support for Sulu and discuss the budgetary requirements for the future transitioning in compliance with the Supreme Court’s ruling.
Also, the contingent met with Sec. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara of the Department of Education to present the issues that beset MBHTE-Division of Sulu and find ways to address those long-standing problems and grievances especially of the teachers.
For sure, we will be witnessing more of these meetings in the coming days since Gov. Abdusakur M. Tan has never back-down from any crises because he considers them instead as opportunities.
With that kind of mental fortitude, Sulu is in good hands.
