CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Despite heavy rain that drenched Macasandig River Boulevard last week, the streets of Cagayan de Oro City came alive as SonAmpat Village 2025 celebrated local music, art, food, and community spirit.

From August 23 to 30, the downpour did little to dampen the energy of festival-goers as streets once quiet throbbed with music, laughter, the aroma of Filipino delicacies, and vibrant colors. SonAmpat, a blend of Sonata (music) and Alampat (art), was launched in 2024 by the Gender and Development Office to showcase Filipino creativity and talent.

Last year, national icons Joey Ayala, Dong Abay, Bayang Barrios, and Waway Saway shared the stage with local artists Dodu Abrio, Kelly Ramos, and Jericho ‘Jake’ Vamenta, planting the seeds for a festival rooted in identity and pride. “At SonAmpat Village, we celebrate more than music — we celebrate our identity.

Local band KRNA performed passionately in the heavy rain, thrilling festival-goers with their music and keeping the energy alive at SonAmpat Village 2025.

Every note played by our local bands carries the heartbeat of our community. Even with the rain pouring down, our performers, artists, and food vendors showed that passion cannot be stopped.

It’s an honor to bring these voices and creations to the stage and inspire pride in our homegrown talent,” said Ms. Sol Paeste-Mosqueda, GAD Focal Person, Cagayan de Oro City. This year, the spotlight turned fully to CDO’s own artists.

Indie CDO and Kagay-an Lokal Musik of the SONATA Group filled the streets with fresh rhythms and energy, while visual artists from the ALAMPAT Group showcased colorful paintings, murals, and handcrafted sculptures that brought life and character to every corner of the village.

Art project by KARUMATA featuring the mythical ORO FISH by Michelle Lua and Jericho Vamenta is proudly displayed, captivating visitors at SonAmpat Village 2025.

Festival-goers also indulged in local delicacies, from sweet pasalubong treats and savory street foods to specialty dishes from small food entrepreneurs, creating a feast for both the eyes and the palate.

SonAmpat Village is more than a festival — it is a community celebration. Barangay-led and inclusive, it welcomes families, children, and seniors. The event highlights locally made products, supports small businesses, and ensures safe, vibrant spaces for everyone.

Apoy CDO, led by Miguel Quijada, amazed the crowd with a fiery dance, lighting up SonAmpat Village 2025 with thrilling flames and energy.

The festival is a testament to collaboration. It is made possible through a partnership between the Cagayan de Oro City Government, Mayor Klarex Uy, the Gender and Development Office, Barangay Council of Macasandig, and Oro Integrated Cooperative.

Together, they transformed the river boulevard into a living canvas of Filipino talent, flavors, and community spirit. As the last notes faded and the rain finally eased, SonAmpat Village 2025 left a lasting echo, reminding everyone that Filipino music, art, food, and heart beat strongest when shared at home — rain or shine.
