MISAMIS ORIENTAL – The two congressmen of the province are bent on supporting the poverty alleviation program of the governor and pledges to set aside funds for SDPI major activities.
First District Rep Christian S. Unabia said he is fully supportive of his father’s single digit poverty incidence (SDPI) projects and considered a very laudable one, which would give way for poverty stricken residents of the province to start small businesses and other livelihood opportunities for them.
“I am fully supportive of the SDPI program of my father since this is also the main thrust of his district to help residents improve their living conditions, most especially those in far-flung barangays in my district, ” he said.
Congressman Yevgeny “Bambi” Emano also reiterated his support to the SDPI program of the provincial governor.
“We at Padayon Pilipino now currently lead by President and Tagoloan Mayor Nadia Emano is fully supportive of the SDPI program of Governor Peter Unabia,” he said.
POVERTY ALLEVIATION PROGRAM OF THE GOVERNOR
In his tenure as Governor of Misamis Oriental, Peter “Sr. Pedro” M. Unabia has placed poverty alleviation at the forefront of his administration’s priorities. Recognizing the need for sustainable solutions to uplift the lives of his constituents, Governor Unabia has spearheaded a comprehensive poverty alleviation program that aims to address both the immediate needs and long-term economic empowerment of the province’s most vulnerable sectors.
At the core of the program is a multi-faceted approach that combines livelihood development, agricultural modernization, education, and healthcare access. Governor Unabia has implemented various livelihood training programs aimed at equipping local residents with skills in small-scale enterprises, including farming, fishing, and crafts-making. These initiatives are designed to foster self-reliance, ensuring that families have stable income sources.
In line with this, Unabia’s administration has prioritized agricultural development, recognizing that a significant portion of the province’s population relies on farming for their livelihood. Through the provision of modern farming equipment, seeds, and technical support, the program aims to increase crop yields and improve farmers’ incomes. Additionally, rural infrastructure development—such as farm-to-market roads—has been enhanced to ensure that farmers can easily access markets to sell their products.
The governor’s focus on education also plays a key role in his poverty alleviation program. Scholarship grants and educational assistance have been made more accessible to underprivileged families, ensuring that children in Misamis Oriental have the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty through education. Health programs, including free medical missions and expanded healthcare access, complement these efforts, addressing one of the major burdens faced by poor families.
Governor Unabia’s poverty alleviation program is a holistic approach that aims not just to provide temporary relief but to lay the foundation for sustained economic growth and community development. Through these initiatives, he envisions a brighter, more prosperous future for the people of Misamis Oriental. ###
