Personal grudge leads to the killing of Lamitan former mayor, 2 others

by JOEL CALAMBA ESCOL, Managing Editor

MDNN National News (July 26) –  Police investigators have confirmed that personal grudge is the main motive of the attacker during a shooting incident that took place inside the Ateneo de Manila compound the other day, July 24.

Police investigators told the media that the suspect, Dr Chao Tiao Yumul, admitted he has personal grudge with former mayor Rose Furigay, as both of them have already filed charges against each other back in their hometown in Lamitan City, Basilan Province.

The shooting incident happened while the university was about to begin the commencement exercises for graduating law students. And Furigay’s daughter, Hannah, were among those who will graduate for this school year

Furigay was killed on the spot including her executive secretary, Victor Capistrano, and one of the security guards of the university, who was believed to have exchanged bullets with the lone suspect identified as a certain Dr Chao Tiao Yumul.

“Matagal na kaming may alitan ng pamilyang yan dahil sinanpahan nila ako ng 76 counts of cyber libel cases at kinasuhan ko rin sila. Tatlong beses narin akong pina-ambush ng pamilyang yan!” the suspect told the media.

Yumul accused the Furigay Family as among the “drug lords” in Basilan, an accusation which was also denied by a certification circulating in the internet – that allegedly PDEA BARMM has already cleared Rosita and his family of any involvement in drugs in the city.

How did the suspect enter the campus?

According to media reports, the suspect gained entrance at the university compound bringing with him a gun with a silencer believed used in the shooting, and another handgun and ammunition. Yumul, it was learned, rented a car from a mobile app company and freely entered the university compound.

And when he saw that the targets were entering the commencement area, he didn’t waste time and started shooting at the victims who were hit into the different parts of their bodies. The former mayor and her executive staff died on the spot, including the university’s security guard.

The former mayor’s daughter, Hannah, was wounded but she was rushed to the nearby hospital and survived.

Police investigators confirmed that after killing the victims, Yumul immediately disappeared from the crime scene to elude responding police operatives.

“Nag-commandeer siya ng sasakyan, nakuha niya doon sa Ateneo, tinakbo niya dito papuntang Aurora Boulevard so doon natin siya nakuha sa Aurora Boulevard,” the police general told CNN Philippines.

Meanwhile, the supposed face-to-face graduation at the university was immediately cancelled by Ateneo following the gruesome killing inside their campus. The university was also placed in lockdown, it was learned.
