Pualas LGU breaks ground for its P264-M water supply system project

PUALAS, Lanao del Sur – The local government of Pualas held Monday, May 06, 2024 the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of its “Climate Resilient Level III Water Supply System with Treatment Facility” in Barangay Danugan.

Costing P264 million, said project was funded thru the Special Development Fund (SDF) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Mayor Amanoden T. Ducol was joined by Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim, Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA) Director General Mohajirin T. Ali, Member of Parliament Marjanie Macasalong, Vice-Mayor Dialalodin L. Maruhom, and other LGU officials during the groundbreaking ceremony.

In his message, Mayor Ducol said with the groundbreaking ceremony of their water supply system, they are making history in the municipality.

“Inshaallah, all the households here shall have safe and quality potable water. When BARMM invested in Pualas, they invested in peace and development. As the chief executive of this municipality, I am fully committed to working with the Bangsamoro government to help in the realization of our shared goals. I believe that by working together, we can make a real difference in the lives of Bangsamoro. The municipality of Pualas strongly supports the BARMM programs and initiatives, and I am confident that by doing so, we will help create a brighter future, for the people of Pualas,” Mayor Ducol emphasized.

Engr. Solaiman Daug, Municipal Engineer of Pualas, said the water system is a much-awaited initiative for the people of Pualas.

“Following this groundbreaking ceremony, we will start the project in about two months. This initiative will provide potable water supply to all Barangays of Pualas. Our aim is also to supply potable water to residents of the nearby towns,” Daug stressed.

The development of the Level III Water Supply System has the following objectives: respond and adapt to climate change that has adverse impact on water supply and affects women and their children; poverty alleviation through provision of safe water that boost household’s productivity with direct accessibility (residents will no longer spend time lining and fetching water); reduce the proportion of households without access to drinking water – in consonance with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2030; support the transformation program of Camp Bilal-Ansar of the MILF “from arm to farm”, and the peace and development in BARMM; safe water provision as part of the governance of the new Pualas administration, a goal leading to the paradigm shift of the residents – water governance and services in long-term perspectives; and provide support to ecotourism potential of Pualas.
