JIMENEZ, Misamis Occidental (PIA)–The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC)-10 conducted a facilitated Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card registration in remote areas in the province of Misamis Occidental to protect subscribers against scams, fraud, or theft using a cellphone.

With the help of local government units assisted by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)-Misamis Occidental and the telecommunication companies, the NTC-Region 10 facilitated SIM registration at Jose Ozamiz Freedom Park in Jimenez town and Municipal Covered Court in Sinacaban town on March 30 and 31.

NTC-10 Focal Person for SIM Registration, Engr. Vixter Abaday, urged the public to register their SIM cards under Republic Act (R.A.) 11934, or the SIM Registration Act.

“Akong panawagan sa tanan nga hapit naman gyud atong deadline on April 26 nga iparehistro na ang atong mga SIM. Kung naa lang ta’y access sa internet, so there’s no need na muadto ta personal sa kani nga gipahigayon nato nga facilitated SIM registration. Pwedi ra basta naa lang ta’y access sa internet. Anywhere, everywhere, ang atong method nga paagi sa pagrehistro is online; even at the comfort of your home, pwede mo makaparehistro,” Abaday urged.

(I urge all of you to remember that our deadline is on April 26, and it’s almost approaching, so register your SIM. If you have access to the internet, there’s no need for you to go there in person, as we have facilitated SIM registration. It is possible as long as we have access to the internet. Anywhere, everywhere, our registration method is online, even in the comfort of your home you can register)

Under the SIM Card Registration Act, existing subscribers must register their mobile numbers with their telco providers. This policy aims to stop digital fraud by making it possible to track all SIMs soon.

“We are expecting that all numbers are registered. Kung naa’y pagabuhaton nga mga illegal activities, so kana siya nga tao ma identify nana. On the part of law enforcers, dali ra ang pag trace or pag-identify ana nga personality,” he shared during the interview.

(If there are illegal activities to be done, that person will be identified. On the part of law enforcers, it is easy to trace or identify that personality.)

He also assured the public that the data provided by users would be safe and remain confidential.

People who want to use these services were told to bring their cell phones with their SIM cards so they could be registered.Apart from these, they were also told to bring a government-issued identification card.

So far, the SIM registration has been done by NTC in the towns of Panaon, Aloran, Jimenez, and Sinacaban. They have served in four towns of MisOcc and they still have two towns that need assistance for SIM registration on April 13-14, to be held in Calamba and Baliangao towns.
