MisOr Gov. Unabia and Provincial Disaster Council Emphasizes on Safety Measures

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) recently held its 1st Quarter Meeting for 2024, focusing on crafting a Contingency Plan for Flood and Rain-Induced Landslides. Led by PDRRMC Head Mr. Fernando Vincent Dy Jr. and Local DRRM Officer Mr. Henry Floy Francisco, the council established eleven clusters to manage disaster responses across various sectors. These clusters span across various sectors, including Law and Order, Emergency Telecommunication, Camp Coordination and Camp Management Cluster led by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, among others.

Integral to the discussion was the unveiling of the Everyday & Emergency Operation Center (EEOC) by Emergency Management Expert, Dr. Ted Esguerra of the Energy Development Corporation, which is designed to coordinate crisis responses.

The meeting was Chaired by Provincial Administrator John Venice L. Ladaga, representing Governor Peter “Sr. Pedro” M. Unabia, highlighting a collaborative effort with Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board members and partner agencies to prioritize disaster preparedness.

Importantly, the formulation of the Contingency Plan adheres to the provisions set forth in RA 10121, also known as The Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2020. This strategic endeavor aligns with the PAGLAUM Strategic Direction advocated by Governor Unabia, emphasizing Participatory Governance as a cornerstone of effective disaster management.

The proactive measures taken by the PDRRMC underscore a commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, especially in the face of potential calamities. As the province gears up for potential challenges, these initiatives serve as a testament to the dedication towards building resilience and protecting lives and livelihoods. ( by Gerry Lee Gorit)
