CAMP SANG-AN, ZDS — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led a momentous ceremony in Tangub City, Misamis Occidental, on September 27, celebrating the province’s official declaration as insurgency-free—a significant milestone in the ongoing pursuit of lasting peace and security across the Philippines.
This achievement is the result of decades-long collaboration between the national government, local government units (LGUs), military forces, and private organizations, all working together to establish stability and order within the province. A key factor in this victory was the dismantling of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMPRC) in March 2024 by the 1st Infantry Division (1ID). Through strategic repositioning of forces, resource control operations, and robust community engagement, the 1ID showcased its unwavering commitment to promoting peace and security throughout Western Mindanao.
With this declaration, the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental now seeks to foster an environment conducive to economic growth by promoting investment opportunities, supporting local businesses, and strengthening regional industries.
During the ceremony, President Marcos Jr. received an official resolution from the Provincial Government, formally declaring the province as insurgency-free. As part of this historic occasion, the President also distributed financial assistance to ten former rebels under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) PAyapa at MAsaganang PamayaNAn (PAMANA) program, underscoring the government’s dedication to reintegrating former combatants into society.
Additionally, the President honored the Friends Rescued (FRs) with rewards for their courageous decision to return to the fold of the law, reinforcing the government’s commitment to reconciliation and peace as achievable goals for all Filipinos.
The 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division, along with other government forces, remains steadfast in its dedication to preserving peace and security throughout the country. They recognize that the journey toward lasting harmony requires the collective efforts of all sectors of society, bolstering peace and development in the region.
