The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has voiced its concerns over recent leadership changes in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). In an official statement, the MILF addressed the replacement of former Chief Minister Ahod Balawag “Murad” Ebrahim with Abdulraof Macacua, the Chief of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF).
The leadership transition has sparked reactions from political, military, religious, and other key stakeholders. The MILF views the decision as an intrusion into their internal governance and a potential violation of the autonomy granted under the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL).
The group stressed that the appointment of a new interim Chief Minister should have taken the MILF’s position into account. Additionally, they warned against efforts that could create divisions within the region.
Reaffirming its commitment to the peace process, the MILF underscored the need for unity to safeguard the progress made and ensure a stable future for the Bangsamoro people.
