Former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea was rushed to a hospital in The Hague, Netherlands, after falling ill while visiting former President Rodrigo Duterte at the International Criminal Court (ICC) Detention Center.
According to the Philippine Embassy in the Netherlands, Medialdea collapsed at the reception counter around 8:55 a.m. on March 18 while registering for a scheduled visit with Duterte.
An embassy official accompanying Medialdea immediately called for medical attention, and a detention center medic provided initial care. Medialdea was then taken to a Hague area hospital by ambulance, where he is currently receiving treatment ². A close relative of Medialdea is also at the hospital, but no further details on his condition have been released.
Medialdea serves as one of Duterte’s legal counsels in the ICC trial. He has been visiting Duterte at the detention center and recently provided an update on the former President’s condition, stating that Duterte was in “very high spirits” and missing his favorite Filipino foods.
