President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has emphasized the significance of Abdulraof Macacua’s appointment as the new Interim Chief Minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Macacua, the current governor of Maguindanao del Norte, replaced Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Chair Ahod Balawag “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim.
Macacua’s appointment is seen as a crucial step in continuing the progress in the region. He brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the chief of staff of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces and as a commissioner of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission, which played a key role in drafting the Bangsamoro Organic Law that established BARMM.
As Interim Chief Minister, Macacua will serve until the winners of the region’s first parliamentary elections are proclaimed after the October elections. His leadership is expected to build on the progress made in the region, promoting peace, stability, and development in BARMM.
