In a statement released on Thursday, the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) assured drivers and operators involved in the Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP), previously known as the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), that the initiative will continue despite recent legislative developments.
LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III affirmed that the modernization program will proceed unless an official directive from the President or the Department of Transportation (DOTr) orders otherwise. This assurance comes in response to a recently filed Senate resolution that calls for a temporary suspension of the program.
“We want to reassure all drivers, operators, and stakeholders who have committed to the PTMP that it will move forward as planned, barring any directives from higher authorities,” Guadiz said. The Chairperson acknowledged the Senate’s resolution, which was introduced to address urgent concerns voiced by certain drivers and transport groups.
Guadiz emphasized the importance of the PTMP as a governmental measure designed to tackle growing transport-related issues. The program aims to improve safety, efficiency, and overall service quality in the public transportation sector.
The PTMP represents a significant shift from the previous PUVMP framework, focusing on enhancing the quality and reliability of public transport services. Despite the ongoing discussions and legislative scrutiny, the LTFRB remains committed to advancing the program’s goals and ensuring a more modern and effective transport system for the public.
The LTFRB’s stance highlights its dedication to addressing the needs of the transport sector while balancing legislative concerns and stakeholder interests. As the debate over the program’s future continues, the Board reiterates its commitment to the principles of modernization and service improvement.
For now, drivers and operators are encouraged to proceed with their involvement in the PTMP, with the assurance that the program’s progress will not be interrupted unless explicitly directed otherwise by the President or the DOTr.
The LTFRB will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary, ensuring that all parties involved are informed of any changes or developments related to the program. ###
