PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur — Elementary student Irah Jane Abad made history for Loreto at the 2026 Palarong Pambansa on May 29, claiming the town’s first gold medal in the Elementary Girls 800-meter run.

Abad’s stellar performance not only thrilled hometown supporters but also earned her a ₱100,000 cash incentive from Mayor Alvin Otazaand Lorife Magadan-Otaza, who praised the young athlete’s discipline and determination.

Beyond this reward, Abad will also receive ₱50,000 from the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur and ₱5,000 from the Department of Education, bringing her total cash prizes to ₱155,000. She said she plans to use the funds to repair her family’s house.

Her trainer, Elias Tabac, added that Governor Santiago Cane, Jr. has committed to supplying cement for the renovation during their meeting on May 29.

Abad’s historic victory set the tone for Loreto’s medal haul as the town’s athletes continued to shine. Mikyla S. Orlandez earned a Bronze Medal in the Long Jump T20 (Junior Girls-Para Games), collecting ₱20,000 for her effort. Peter Greyson T.
