Fans of Netflix’s hit animated film KPop Demon Hunters may have more to look forward to as songwriter Mark Sonnenblick confirmed that a sequel is currently in development. The update comes during an extraordinary year for the award-winning songwriter, who has already secured a Golden Globe, a Grammy, and an Academy Award nomination in 2026 for co-writing Golden, the film’s biggest musical hit. The track also made history as the first K-Pop song ever to win a Grammy, further cementing the movie’s global impact.
Sonnenblick described the film’s journey as going from “zero to a million,” noting that strong fan support played a huge role in Golden gaining recognition. He shared that the Oscar nomination felt especially emotional, recalling a heartfelt call with his parents shortly after hearing the news. According to him, the song’s success shows how audience enthusiasm can elevate a project beyond expectations.

While early discussions about a sequel are underway, Sonnenblick emphasized that the creative team will focus on developing a strong story before diving into new music. Creator Maggie Kang has also hinted there is more to explore with the film’s characters, suggesting the franchise may continue to grow if the concept feels right.
Beyond film, Sonnenblick is staying busy with his upcoming stage musical Midnight at the Never Get, set to open in London this July at the Menier Chocolate Factory. The production stars award-winning actor Ben Platt and tells the story of a singer and songwriter navigating their relationship in a hidden gay bar in 1960s New York. With both film and theater projects gaining momentum, Sonnenblick’s creative influence continues to expand across multiple entertainment platforms.
