BY  ASANGAN T. MADALE

MARAWI CITY- Minister Mohager Iqbal  of the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical  Education (MBHTE)  strongly condemns  the  grenade attack  in the town of Pikit  Cotabato, early morning of  June 14, 2023  that caused  casualties  of  innocent  individuals  including  a public  school  teacher.

Ms  Marichu Valle Cabanog , 42 years old  public school  teacher in  Ginatilan and a resident of Balong  Pikit North Cotabato, was heavily hit when  the hand grenade

exploded  in the area, while on his way  to report to duty.  Top Officials  said.

Cabanog  was immediately  rushed  to the  hospital by her companion  for immediate  treatment, but she was declared  dead in  the spot  by his attending physician and nurses.

reports said.

Iqbal  strongly condemns  the  untimely death of  Marichu Valle Cabanog  in behalf  of the  Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) appealing to conduct an investigation  to give  justice  to the family  of the victims.

For the past few months, the Municipality of Pikit has been faced with different incidents that threatened the safety and security of its constituents where majority of these incidents were shooting and ambush.

Education is indeed inherently apolitical though it needs to carry actions that implore us to help our students find meaning and purpose in their learning as their preparation and contribution not only to the community but also to the society. In order to attain this, teachers and the entire community shall play vital roles.

Thus, the MBHTE and the entire education community stand with everyone in condemning this inhuman act and is committed to contribute and work in ending all forms of abuse and violence. We urge the public to help in safeguarding peace and order in their local communities. Iqbal said

The Bangsamoro region, especially the Education Ministry has a moral obligation to protect its learners as well as its educators and help the communities within its jurisdiction.

To this, we call on the authorities especially the men in uniform alongside the Local Government Unit to immediately conduct an investigation and expeditiously bring justice to the bereaved family.

Further, we imperatively urge everyone to be more vigilant and cautious in these trying times. Iqbal added. ###
