Incoming MisOr Gov. calls for unity, vows as ‘mother to all’

Mrs. Uy was also able to prove her stance that she exclaimed on October 08, 2024

Governor-elect Juliette Tiu – Uy became the 24th local chief executive of Misamis Oriental after earning 327,305 votes during the 2025 mid-term polls on May 12.

Mrs. Uy was declared the champ by the Provincial Board of Canvassers assembled in the session hall of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan or Provincial Board inside the Capitol compound at around 1 AM of May 13. She was proclaimed by the body consisting of Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Carlito Ravelo, Provincial Prosecutor Atty. Irene Meso and Department of Education (DepEd) – Division of MisOr Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Edilberto Oplenaria as she arrived in the location later in the day of the declaration at 2 PM.

Out of ten municipalities in the 1st district, eight opted for Mrs. Uy. In the 2nd, twelve supported except Initao. She was also preferred in Gingoog and El Salvador, the respective component city of each legislative area.

After being proclaimed, Mrs. Uy delivered a speech emphasizing the need for unity regardless of political alignment. “Kinanghanglan united na ang Misamis Oriental sa any color of politics (Misamis Oriental should be united despite different colors of politics)”, she stated. She pledged, “I will be your ally; I will be your friend in Misamis Oriental. Inahan ako sa tanan (I am a mother to all)” in the conclusion of her statement inside the session hall. Delivering such, Misamisnons expect her to personally hear the pleas, plights and sentiments of the masses – especially the contractual employees (job order and casual) of the Provincial Capitol the moment she assumes the gubernatorial seat by 1st of July.

During the campaign, Mrs. Uy’s battlecry was for Misamisnons to “Bangon” (rise) and see the prevailing truth as part of the people’s efforts to fight their respective hardships in life. Modernization, economic progress, accessible healthcare, quality education and environmental sustainability through the vehicle of inclusive leadership are the pinned destinations of her recently presented map of governance.

The former representative of the 2nd district of MisOr in the Philippines’ Lower House of Congress from 2013-2022 hails from Villanueva, Misamis Oriental and is a member of the National Unity Party (NUP). During her stint in legislation, Mrs. Uy’s advocacy was centered on community welfare and development.

It was during the 2022 national and local elections that Mrs. Uy first vied to lead MisOr but lost to the now outgoing Governor Peter Mamawag Unabia. Her choice to retry for the position etched another historical milestone in the province as she is the second female to hold the post succeeding Former Governor Ruthie de Lara – Guingona. Apart from that, Mrs. Uy’s recent success is another example that no matter how heavy the responsibility, all genders can fulfill it – fortifying her stand on women empowerment.

Mrs. Uy was also able to prove her stance that she exclaimed on October 08, 2024 when she filed her candidacy that serving the public genuinely does not require a fabulous wealth. “Mao na ako’ng i-prove sa inyo karon nga dili tanan kwarta (That is what I will prove to you now that not everything is about mojney)”, it reverberated. She added referring to her adversaries “Mao man na’ng panghinadlok nila permi nga daghan sila kwarta (That’s how they always try to weaken us, that they have more resources).”
