Heads roll in City Hall as Mayor Uy reports in July

BY CRIS DIAZ

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Heads to roll as the city government undergoes massive revamp with the assumption of the newly elected city Mayor here on July 4, 2022.

Mayor – elect Rolando “Klarex” Uy was short of declaring all positions of the 4,000-strong city government workers vacant while emphasizing financial recovery as one of the major thrusts of his incumbency.

“While the financial liquidity of the city needs urgent reengineering, the fight against illegal drugs remains the top priority of my administration,” Uy said.

“I will extend full support to the city police to take seriously the anti-illegal drugs campaign during my watch, “ he said.

Political opponents accused Uy as an alleged “drug lord”—a serious allegation that Uy vehemently denied prompting him to file libel cases against a former political ally who used the illegal drug issue against him (Uy) during the campaign period.

In a talk with the Manila Times, Uy said that the financial status of the city government is a major concern considering the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic here.

He said he would direct the transition team to review the financial status of the city government in relation to the city’s existing loans and revenues.

Uy also hinted of extending a free college education for those who could not qualify as city scholars to provide them chances to earn college degree, especially those coming from the city’s hinterland villages.

“Education and health would be the flagship of my incumbency,” Uy said as he disclosed that apart from constructing a city college, new city hospitals would also be constructed. -0-
