Globe mobilizes resources amid Mayon Volcano unrest

Extends payment due dates, offers free connectivity, telehealth consultation to affected customers

In support of the Ayala Group’s #BrigadangAyala efforts, Globe has mobilized its resources to provide critical support to communities affected by the continuing unrest of Mount Mayon.

The company is working with their partners on-ground to provide necessary relief, communications support, and monetary aid to those affected.

Globe’s employees volunteered on-ground to help in the distribution of relief packs to affected families in Tabaco and Daraga, Albay.

Globe is also setting up three Libreng Tawag, Libreng Charging, and Libreng WiFi sites in Daraga, Guinobatan, and Malilipot, expected to be fully operational starting June 16, Friday. These efforts are part of Globe’s comprehensive disaster readiness initiative aimed at facilitating crucial communication lines during disasters.

Here is the full schedule of Globe’s free call, charging and WiFi booths:

June 16 – 21, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.

●       Daraga Evacuation Center – Anislag, Daraga, Albay

●       Guinobatan Community College – Mauraro, Guinobatan, Albay

●       San Jose Elementary School – San Jose, Malilipot, Albay

In anticipation of possible power disruptions, Globe’s technical and support teams have primed backup generators at key facilities. This step is taken to ensure steady delivery of network services in areas impacted by the volcano’s unrest.

Globe is also providing connectivity support to residents in affected areas.

TM users will get free All-Net Surf access for one day with unli all-net calls and texts, 100MB of free data and 100MB more for Facebook, Viber, Whatsapp and Twitter.

Home Prepaid WiFi users will, meanwhile, get 5GB open access for three days. Globe Mobile Postpaid and Globe At Home Postpaid users will get extended bill due dates.

Those who may need medical support will get free teleconsultation through the KonsultaMD app using the code KMDBICOL2023 (valid for one time use within one month).

To ensure that the public has access to vetted information about volcanic activity, Globe has also enabled free data access to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) websites.

As authorities continue to monitor Mayon’s heightened activity, Globe strongly advises residents in at-risk areas to be prepared by storing essential supplies, creating emergency kits, and keeping mobile devices fully charged. Residents in danger zones must also heed government-led evacuation.

Phivolcs earlier raised Alert Level 3 over Mayon, requiring residents within the 6-km radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) to evacuate due to potential risks of pyroclastic density currents (PDCs), lava flows, rockfalls, and other volcanic hazards.

In these challenging times, Globe remains committed to helping affected communities and working hand-in-hand with government agencies in disaster response. The company assures the public of its continuous efforts to disseminate critical updates and advisories to maintain safety and awareness.
