Defense Secretary Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. has expressed his confidence in the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) professionalism and loyalty to the Constitution. In an ambush interview at the Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig, on Saturday, Teodoro stated that the AFP has never wavered in its commitment to upholding the Constitution and civilian supremacy.
This assurance comes amid recent changes in the National Security Council (NSC) composition, which some have speculated may cause divisions within the military.
However, Teodoro’s statement echoes the AFP’s own reaffirmation of its commitment to the Constitution and the Filipino people.
The AFP has maintained that it “strictly adheres to the chain of command and is committed to serving impartially, in full compliance with the law and democratic processes”.
With Teodoro’s endorsement, it is clear that the AFP remains steadfast in its duty to protect and serve the country.
