The J.R. Borja General Hospital (JRBGH) in Cagayan de Oro City has introduced a new medical service called laparoscopic cholecystectomy operation, providing high-quality, efficient, and effective care to the community. This minimally invasive surgical procedure is designed to treat gallbladder stones, appendix issues, and other abdominal conditions.
The laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedure involves small incisions, resulting in faster recovery times compared to traditional surgery. This service is now available for free to qualified patients at the city hospital under the leadership of Chief of Hospital Dr. Michael June Perez. In private hospitals, this procedure can cost at least P130,000.

Dr. Arch Thor Ponce, Chairman of the Surgery Department and General Surgeon at JRBGH, explained that the minimally invasive nature of the procedure means less scarring, faster recovery, and a quicker return to normal activities for patients. This approach also helps the hospital conserve resources and reduce costs.
The JRBGH has been working to provide quality medical services to the community, particularly those who cannot afford expensive treatments. Under the administration of Mayor Klarex Uy, the hospital has remained committed to its mission of delivering high-quality medical care to all, regardless of socio-economic status.

The hospital’s recent recognition as a Level 2 facility by the Department of Health underscores its capability to offer more comprehensive and specialized services to the community. This development is expected to further enhance the hospital’s ability to provide quality healthcare services.
With the introduction of laparoscopic surgery, JRBGH continues to improve its services, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care. The hospital’s commitment to providing accessible and quality healthcare is evident in its efforts to adopt new technologies and procedures that benefit the community.
