A group of Filipino workers in Dubai, UAE gathered to express their support for former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently detained in The Hague, Netherlands, as he faces crimes against humanity charges before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
According to reports, the group convened at a mall in Dubai, carrying Philippine flags and posters with messages backing Duterte.
“We are here to show our support for President Duterte,” said Roland dela Cruz, a Filipino worker in Dubai. “We believe that he is innocent and that he is being unfairly targeted by his critics.”
The demonstrators claimed that Duterte’s detention violates his human rights and called on the ICC to release him and drop the charges.
Duterte is currently held in The Hague, Netherlands, facing allegations related to his administration’s “war on drugs,” which reportedly resulted in thousands of deaths. His supporters maintain that the charges are baseless and accuse the ICC of political persecution.
