Presidential Adviser on Muslim Affairs, Secretary ALMARIN C TILLAH, AL-HAJ together with the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) under the leadership of Director General GREGORIO PIO P CATAPANG JR., AFP (Ret.) CESE, CCLH celebrated International Women’s Day with a program at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) on March 8,2024 at Mandaluyong City.
OPAMA TILLAH’s presence showed support and strengthen the well-being of imprisioned female Muslims. This emphasizes his commitment in protecting their rights and confirm their well being within the justice system. He mark some strategies during his speech to improve the conditions of Muslim PDLs, develop a vision for their improvement addressing their specific needs and difficulties.
Secretary Tillah also requested President Bong-Bong Marcos for parole of 22 Christians and 17 Muslims.
According to BuCor, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla ordered the release of 8 PDLs who had served their maximum sentence after deducting the credits earned under the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) law. GCTA reduces sentences of PDLs who show good behavior.
Under Department Order No. 652 signed in November 2022, “the release of all PDLs incarcerated in national penitentiaries with expired sentences shall be approved by BuCor DG CATAPANG in accordance with the mandate of the Bureau.”
