Ex-vice mayor is Rotary International District 3870 disaster committee chair

By MARK FRANCISCO

FORMER Cagayan de Oro City Vice Mayor Antonio Soriano was recently appointed as the Rotary International District 3870 disaster relief committee chair.

This was reported by RI 3870 District Governor-elect Gilda Go who promptly remarked “thank you PP Tony for accepting the assignment.” PP means “past president” as Soriano also served in the past as a president of the district’s mother club, the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro.

With this new assignment, Soriano would oversee disaster relief projects of the 44 clubs of Rotary International District 3870 from Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, Camiguin and its homefront Cagayan de Oro City.

Rotary supports three phases of relief: immediate response, short-term assistance and long-term building. For immediate response, local clubs and partners immediately offer helping hands and supplies. For short-term assistance, clubs and districts help affected communities wherever they can through funds and materials to reestablish day to day operations. For long-term building, clubs plan and implement projects that rebuild affected communities.
