LAGONGLONG, Misamis Oriental – Governor Peter “Sr. Pedro” M. Unabia lamented the recent strike of African Swine Fever or what is commonly known as ASF.
This, after Dr Benjamin “Benjie” Resma, provincial agriculturist of the province confirmed the positive finding of his team of a hog in the municipality of Lagonglong.
Resma said upon confirming ASF in the town, he immediately ordered the culling of the area to prevent the widespread of the ASF virus.
“When we got the positive finding of our team I immediately ordered the culling of at least 300 meters radius from the location of where the ASF-infected hog was found,” Resma said.
He said the governor was really saddened by the report because it was successfully stopped last year and stringent protocols were implemented by the province so that it won’t happen again.
Resma said he also received reports that some pigs were also dying in the municipality of Opol and his office is now doing its best to immediately discover what caused such a phenomenon.
Although he said its too early to say the cause was also ASF infestation unless findings were also found to be ASF-positive.
