DOST XI-installed Solar Street Lights Now “Light Up” Lumiad, Paquibato

The Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) launched 165 solar-powered street lights in Paquibato and Marilog Districts as part of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Davao City program last June 22, 2023.

Barangay Lumiad, Paquibato Proper, and Salaysay each received 55 solar street lights from DOST XI, with the street poles funded by the barangays.

The 100-watt solar-powered street lights are made of polycrystalline bulbs. According to Mr. John Villarma, Project Technical Assistant I and Davao City CEST Staff, this is an ideal choice such that if one bulb gets compromised, the others would not get affected.

Each light also has a built-in motion sensor, which makes the lights dim when no movement is detected, thus saving power. Previously, DOST XI installed solar panels in the Barangay Hall of Paradise Embac, also in Paquibato District. These projects are under Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, one of CEST’s entry points or DOST XI’s ways of intervention. (PR/DOST XI)
