To address malnutrition among underprivileged children, the Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) City Science and Technology Office (CSTO) organized a food distribution program in Barangay Bantol, Davao City. The initiative aimed to provide nutritional support to children in need and educate parents on the significance of proper nutrition.
The DOST XI distributed essential nutritional items to 39 identified undernourished children, including iron-fortified rice, enhanced nutribun, and powdered milk which will ensure a balanced and enriched diet for the children in the community.
“We believe that addressing the issue of malnutrition requires a holistic approach. It’s not just about providing food but also educating parents about the significance of balanced nutrition for the healthy growth and development of their children,” remarked Ms. Just Magallanes, Science Research Specialist II of DOST XI.
The Barangay Bantol Captain, Mr. Edwin B. Fiel, expressed his gratitude for the intervention by DOST XI. In a statement, he said, “We are thankful to the DOST for this initiative that will truly benefit our community.”
The activity is under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology program of DOST directed to empower progressive and resilient communities through various Science, Technology, and Innovation initiatives and strengthen communities’ health and nutrition, water and sanitation, livelihood and enterprise, education, and disaster risk reduction and management.
