The public is informed to prepare for a reduction in the city’s water supply due to scheduled rehabilitation starting March 17 this year.
At a press conference held by the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) together with the Cagayan de Oro Bulk Intake (COBI) on Friday, March 13, it was announced that there will be water supply interruptions due to the water rehabilitation and treatment plan to be carried out at COBI.
It was explained that the water supply will decrease to 40 million liters per day (MLD) from the usual 60 MLD from March 17–20. District 1 (Patag, Bulua, Kauswagan, Bonbon, Bayabas, and Carmen) will be affected by the limited supply, while District 2 may experience low pressure in Cronin, Camaman-an, and Bontong, and possibly no water in Tibasak, Macasandig, and Corona Drive.
After the four-day rehabilitation, there will be a two-week “healing period” for the treatment plan.
According to Marianito Barahan, COBI Technical Adviser, the Rapid Sand Filter (RSF) needs rehabilitation because it is clogged and will require replacement with new materials.
Materials are ready and work will begin on March 17, with rehabilitation expected to be completed by May 9 so that production and water supply can return to normal.
In line with this, COWD and COBI, with the support of Mayor Klarex Uy and cooperation from the local government and barangay officials, requested and hoped for the public’s understanding and cooperation in this project.
Present at the press conference were COWD officials led by Dr. Gerry Caño, chairman of the COWD Board of Directors; Engr. Edna Najeal, COWD general manager; Engr. Nieva Ladera, Assistant General Manager for Technical Services; and Marianito Barahan, COBI technical adviser. (MDS/Photos by Iren Fuentes/CIO)
