Cagayan de Oro City — Government officials and professionals gathered on March 22, 2026, at Hamersons Hotel for the PA 507 Economic Planning Colloquium, focusing on building resilient economies for sustainable development.

The program opened with remarks from PA 507 Class President Ivy Guantero, who emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving shared goals. She expressed gratitude to the speakers and partner institutions, highlighting that the event was made possible through collective effort and support.

Key speaker Major General Michele B. Anayron Jr., Commander of the 4th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, discussed the strong link between peace and economic growth. He noted that Northern Mindanao continues to thrive despite challenges, reaching a ₱1.04 trillion economy. He also shared updates on the military’s efforts in reducing insurgency and maintaining security in the region.

“Peace and development must go hand in hand. One cannot exist without the other,” Anayron said, stressing that a peaceful environment encourages investment and long-term progress.

Meanwhile, Karma Yasmin B. Ortiz of the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development Region 10 presented the region’s current economic performance. She reported steady growth but pointed out that many communities still face poverty and limited job opportunities.

She challenged participants to think beyond numbers and focus on improving people’s lives. “Growth alone is not enough—we need to make sure that development reaches everyone,” Ortiz said.

Ortiz also highlighted the country’s long-term vision, “Ambisyon Natin 2040,” which aims to provide a comfortable and secure life for all Filipinos through proper planning and strong governance.

The event concluded with a panel discussion and closing session, reinforcing the importance of unity, strategic planning, and sustained peace in building a stronger and more inclusive economy. (JME/MDN)
