Campaign against ‘loose firearms’ intensified by 6ID

CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao, del Norte– The 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, Philippine Army has now intensified the dismantling of loose firearms to prevent crimes that occur in the area under its jurisdiction.

According to Major General Roy Galido, the Commander of the 6ID and Joint Task Force Central that the instrument of violence must be removed. “The instrument of violence must be removed to prevent it from sowing violence among us”.

This was announced by the official after residents in the town of Datu Anggal Midtimbang in Maguindanao del Sur turned over their weapons to the camp of the 2nd Mechanized Battalion led by Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Nadala Jr.

Among the weapons turned over were five 7.62mm Sniper Rifles; a grenade launcher, M203; KJ9 rifle; and a Cal .45, magazine and ammunition.

The turn-over ceremony was personally led by Hon Mary Joy Estephanie Midtimbang, the Mayor of DAM during the “Balik Baril Program” at the Municipal Compound, this November 11, 2022. Colonel Ricky Bunayog, the Deputy Commander of the 601st formally welcomed Brigade eight weapons in the ceremony.

“We are elated by the gesture of support of the local chief executive for the campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms”, said Col. swing

Major General Galido, on the other hand, praised this step by the residents of DAM while encouraging individuals with loose firearms to contact the authorities for the proper disposition of their weapons. “This is an effort that we, the military cannot do alone. We need the initiative of the people to voluntarily surrender their loose firearms. After all, it will serve best for their safety”, the Division Commander added.
