BUREAU OF CUSTOMS PORT OF ZAMBOANGA WELCOMES NEW DISTRICT COLLECTOR AS ABAÑO PASSES LEADERSHIP TO ZURBITO

ZAMBOANGA CITY- The Bureau of Customs-Port of Zamboanga formally welcomed its new District Collector during a turnover ceremony, marking a new chapter in the leadership of the port.

Outgoing District Collector Elenita A. Abaño officially handed over the post to District Collector Atty. Manuel Zurbito Jr., expressing gratitude to Customs personnel, partner agencies, and stakeholders for their support throughout her tenure.

In her farewell speech, Abaño emphasized that the transition is more than a change in leadership, saying it is a reaffirmation of the Bureau of Customs’ commitment to continuity, integrity, and excellence in public service.

She highlighted the Port of Zamboanga’s accomplishments under her leadership, including stronger anti-smuggling efforts, improved customs processes, enhanced stakeholder engagement, and sustained operational efficiency.

Abaño also thanked the Commissioner of Customs, the Management Committee, government partners, importers, customs brokers, shipping lines, and all stakeholders who contributed to advancing lawful trade and protecting the country’s borders.

As she formally turned over the leadership, Abaño expressed confidence that District Collector Zurbito would continue to strengthen the Port of Zamboanga through innovation and effective leadership.

She also urged Customs officers and employees to extend their full cooperation and professionalism to the incoming district collector while continuing to uphold the values of integrity, accountability, and excellence in serving the Filipino people.
