CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City — As part of the intensified campaign against illegal trading and smuggling, Police Regional Office 10 (PRO-10) successfully intercepted an estimated total value of PhP87,200.00 worth of smuggled cigarettes during separate checkpoint operations on May 27, 2025.

Personnel of Alubijid Municipal Police Station conducted a checkpoint operation along the National Highway at Purok 2, Barangay Poblacion, Alubijid, Misamis Oriental. A vehicle traveling from Laguindingan Airport exhibited suspicious behavior, abruptly accelerating and breaching the police checkpoint in an apparent attempt to evade inspection. Police officers immediately initiated a pursuit and intercepted the vehicle in Purok 6, Barangay Poblacion.

Upon inspection, the officers recovered 620 packs of Modern Cigarettes and 270 packs of Cannon Cigarettes, estimated to be worth ₱71,200. The driver, identified as alias “Kai,” 23, residing in Barangay Lumbo, Alubijid, Misamis Oriental, was promptly arrested.

The suspect, vehicle, and confiscated items were brought to Alubijid MPS for documentation and are now in the custody of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) for further investigation and legal disposition.

Meanwhile, personnel of Damulog Municipal Police Station successfully recovered a sack containing 20 reams of assorted smuggled cigarettes brands — including D Monte, B&R, Vision, Lucky 7, VX, and San Marino — following a report from a concerned citizen about a suspicious package along the roadside near a checkpoint in Barangay Old Damulog. The seized cigarettes are valued at PhP16,000.00 and were turned over to the Damulog Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.

PBGEN JAYSEN C DE GUZMAN, Regional Director, PRO10, commended the operating unit for their hard-work and perseverance in the fight against smuggling.

“PRO-10 remains steadfast in protecting our borders and local economies against the threats of smuggling. I commend the officers of Alubijid and Damulog MPS for their professionalism, vigilance, and swift response.
