THE Cagayan de Oro City council committees on women/family relations and education led by Councilors Moreno Daba IV and Desiree Ann Dahino jointly tackled earlier today the proposed ordinance institutionalizing civic responsibility, public safety, environmental awareness, waste management, social etiquette and children’s rights education in the curriculum of all primary and secondary schools in Cagayan de Oro City promoting child participation in local governance and for other purposes.
According to Dahino, the proposed ordinance seeks to provide children and young people with a stronger foundation in responsible citizenship by integrating these important values into their learning and daily lives.
\Daba added that it “aims to encourage respect for laws and public spaces, proper waste disposal, environmental stewardship, awareness of children’s rights, and positive social behavior. More than simply establishing guidelines, the measure is intended to help shape disciplined, informed, compassionate, and community-oriented young Kagay-anons.”
“I am truly grateful for the valuable commendations and constructive recommendations shared by our partners from DepEd, CLENRO, RTA, DILG, CEDO, the Local School Board, and CDRMMD. We were also joined by representatives from the City Information Office and the City Legal Office, whose valuable insights further enriched our discussions,” Dahino said. “Through our collective efforts, we continue refining this proposed measure to ensure that it is responsive, practical, and effective—and that it becomes a meaningful and lasting investment in the future of every young Kagay-anon. Together, we remain committed to crafting responsive legislation that empowers our children, strengthens our communities, and promotes a culture of responsible citizenship.”
