“Let us celebrate the strength, talents, and valuable contributions of persons with disabilities. May we continue building an inclusive community where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, equal rights, and equal opportunities. Together, let us break barriers and create a society where no one is left behind.”
This was the message of Barangay 17 chairman Anthony Atterviry as the first-ever Humba Cooking Contest for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) was successfully held on Saturday, July 18, at the Barangay 40 Covered Court in the city.
In the competition, District 2C emerged as the champion, District 2B placed second, and District 1B finished third.
The contest was organized by the Cagayan de Oro City Government (LGU-CDO) through the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO) and the City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWD) – PWD Section.
The event aimed to demonstrate that persons with disabilities, despite their physical or other limitations, are capable and possess valuable skills and abilities.
The activity was also held in celebration of the 48th National Disability Rights Week, observed from July 17 to 23, with the theme: “Rights First, Legislation Forward – Strategic Action for Equal Participation and Inclusive Development.” (NLB/CIO/Photos courtesy of CSWD)
