THE National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2026 Kick-off Caravan and Static Display officially launches a month-long observance dedicated to disaster risk reduction and management.

Held today, July 1, 2026 at the SM CDO Downtown Premier, Cagayan de Oro City, this initiative is organized in alignment with Executive Order No. 29, s. 2017, which mandates the nationwide observance of NDRM every July.

The National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2026 Kick-off Caravan and Static Display is spearheaded by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD)- 10 as chair of the RDRRMC-10, anchored on the theme, “Naghahanda at Kumikilos Tungo sa Panatag na Bagong Pilipinas.”

A core feature of the event is the static display, which highlights specialized emergency response capabilities and disaster preparedness programs.

Various RDRRMC-10 member-agencies and partner- organizations are showcasing their essential rescue equipment and services.

Through these public demonstrations, OCD-10 and RDRRMC-10 aims to effectively strengthen public awareness and encourage active community participation in safety protocols.

The caravan and display also serve to reinforce long-term disaster preparedness and resilience across the entire Northern Mindanao region.

Highlighting this year’s theme, “Naghahanda at Kumikilos Tungo sa Panatag na Bagong Pilipinas,” Office of Civil Defense (OCD) – 10 Regional Director Antonio B. Sugarol reminded the audience during the opening ceremony that true disaster resilience extends far beyond merely reacting to emergencies; it requires taking proactive, immediate steps to safeguard local lives, protect regional livelihoods, and build communities capable of absorbing and recovering from catastrophic events.

Acknowledging that the region is currently recovering from the impacts of a recent typhoon, OCD-10 Regional Director Antonio B. Sugarol emphasized that OCD-10 and the RDRRMC-10 member-agencies remain steadfast in fostering a culture of continuous awareness and collaboration.

However, he noted a critical boundary in governance.

“While we all continue to strengthen policies, systems, and response capabilities, true resilience can only be achieved when every sector of society actively participates,” he said.

He pointed to the diverse turnout at the launch as a physical embodiment of that shared commitment. (Irene Joy Dayo/PIA)
