The Philippine National Police (PNP) has successfully intercepted over P20 million worth of allegedly smuggled cigarettes in a major anti-smuggling operation in Barangay Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City. The coordinated raid was conducted by the City Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) in collaboration with the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG), PRO 9, and ZCPS12 on October 23.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of 355 master cases of suspected contraband cigarettes, including 249 Black Hawk and 106 San Marino master cases, with an estimated market value of P20,341,500. The seized items are now under the custody of the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.
PNP Acting Chief PLtGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. commended the operating units for their swift coordination and precision, emphasizing that the operation sends a clear message to smugglers. “The PNP remains resolute in its commitment to enforce the law and dismantle networks that profit from illicit trade,” Nartatez said.
The PNP’s efforts to combat smuggling are expected to have a positive impact on the community, protecting the public from the harmful effects of contraband goods. The operation also underscores the PNP’s commitment to upholding fair trade and supporting the government’s economic recovery efforts.
The Bureau of Customs will conduct further investigation and disposition of the seized contraband. The PNP’s anti-smuggling operation is part of their ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement and protect the country’s borders.
