Misamis Oriental Shines at PASUNDAYAG Cultural Dance Contest

Misamis Oriental celebrated its cultural richness through the PASUNDAYAG dance contest on September 16, 2025, at Centrio Ayala Mall in Cagayan de Oro City. The event was part of the province’s National Tourism Week festivities, showcasing the diverse heritage of its municipalities. Twelve towns participated, each presenting dances tied to their unique festivals and traditions.

The participating municipalities were Initao (Lantawanan Festival), Salay (Kasilay Festival), Lugait (Luga-hait Festival), Kinoguitan (Kaaha-an Festival), Libertad (Barungoy Festival), Sugbongcogon (Manokmanokan Festival), Manticao (Bibingka Festival), Villanueva (Hal-ag Festival), Balingasag (Lambangus Festival), Gitagum (Matahuma Festival), Binuangan (Patunob Festival), and Claveria (Mais Festival). Each performance highlighted local products and cultural stories.

Claveria’s Mais Festival dance won 1st place, earning a ₱30,000 cash prize and trophy. Sugbongcogon’s Manokmanokan Festival took 2nd place (₱20,000), while Libertad’s Barungoy Festival secured 3rd place (₱15,000). Homer Bana, Claveria Mais Performing Arts Director, thanked Gov. Juliette Uy for tourism support, saying they aim to contribute best to Misamis Oriental through cultural showcases.

Provincial Board Member Princess Emano, representing Gov. Uy, stressed the importance of cultural pride and unity. The event drew attendance from Vice Gov. Jeremy Pelaez, mayors, tourism officers, and partner agencies. Judges included cultural experts Michael Villamor, Raul Prima, Ronald Caron, and Vincent Aranas, ensuring a rigorous evaluation of the performances.

The PASUNDAYAG contest underscored Misamis Oriental’s commitment to promoting tourism and cultural heritage. Gov. Uy’s administration supports such initiatives to highlight local traditions and boost provincial identity. Claveria’s win reflects the province’s vibrant cultural scene and potential for growth through tourism-driven community engagement
