MDNN National News (July 24, 3pm) – At least three persons were killed in a shooting inside Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City on Sunday, around 3p.m., police reports said.
The responding police investigators identified the slain victims as Rose Furigay, a former mayor of Lamitan City, Basilan Province, Mindanao; Victor George Capistrano, the ex-mayor’s close-in bodyguard and a certain Jeneven Bandiala, a security guard of the university.
Also injured during the shooting was Hannah Furigay, the daughter of the former mayor, it was learned. Hannah was immediately brought to the hospital and is already in a stable condition.
The two slain victims in a shooting inside Ateneo, according to police authorities, were attending the graduation of Hannah Furigay when they were approached by the suspect, Dr Chao-Tiao Yumol, and without provocation, peppered them with bullets that killed them instantly.
The suspect, after seeing his targets already bathed in blood and lying in the pavements, immediately commandeered a white SUV Van to escape from responding police operatives.
In an interview with the media, QCPD Director Brigadier General Remus Medina said a dragnet was already activated by police stations in Metro Manila and the suspect was later arrested along Aurora Boulevard.
“Nag-commandeer siya ng sasakyan, nakuha niya doon sa Ateneo, tinakbo niya dito papuntang Aurora Boulevard so doon natin siya nakuha sa Aurora Boulevard,” the police general told CNN Philippines.
Meanwhile, the supposed face-to-face graduation at the university was immediately cancelled by Ateneo following the gruesome killing inside their campus. The university was also placed in lockdown, it was learned.
Personal Grudge
The suspect told the media, the killing of the former mayor of Lamitan town in Basilan and his bodyguard was a personal grudge.
He said Rose Furigay charged him in court of 76 counts of cyber libel, the reason that he could not practice his profession as a doctor in their town.
